IBM watsonx.data is a hybrid, open data lakehouse for AI and analytics workloads in enterprise environments. It combines a multi-engine architecture (Presto, Apache Spark, Db2, Netezza) with open formats (Apache Iceberg, Parquet) and a unified metadata layer for distributed data across cloud, multi-cloud, and on-premises deployments. The product is available as a fully managed SaaS service (IBM Cloud, AWS) and as software on Red Hat OpenShift, with built-in governance, lineage, and access control features. It is part of the broader IBM watsonx platform, announced in May 2023 and generally available since July 2023.
