Laya is a family of open-source, non-autoregressive "System-1" decision models from Convai Innovations that answer typed questions (multiple choice, score, bool) about a given state in a single Forward-Pass instead of generating text. There are three checkpoints: an English variant (ModernBERT-large, 421M parameters), a multilingual variant (mmBERT-base, 322M parameters, 100+ languages), and a variant Fine-Tuned on a Typed-Decisions Benchmark. The model was released on September 18, 2026 under the Apache-2.0 license, runs locally without API costs, and is also executed directly on Apple Silicon devices via unofficial ports (MLX, Core ML).
