Ask DoorDash is an AI chatbot launched in June 2026, integrated directly into the DoorDash iOS app, allowing users to place food and grocery orders and make restaurant reservations via text, voice, or photo input. The system uses a multi-model approach (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and open-source models) and an agent-based backend built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP). According to DoorDash, chatbot-assembled grocery carts average more than 35% higher in value and are completed five times faster than carts built through the standard app interface. DoorDash also plans to license the technology as a white-label solution to external partners such as grocers, restaurant chains, and other retailers.
