AIPointer is a free, open-source desktop overlay assistant for macOS, Windows, and Linux that answers questions about whatever the cursor is pointing at. Holding a hotkey brings up a translucent input box next to the cursor; a vision-capable LLM analyzes a screenshot of the cursor region and answers instantly, without switching apps or copy-pasting. The tool is local-first with no telemetry and uses the user's own API keys (BYO key) with providers such as OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google Gemini. It was built by Mario Simic (Vienna), the same author behind the larger AI agent "Skales".
