Mecatl is an open-source agent framework (cloud-native harness) developed by Stacklok for operating AI agents in production environments. It decouples the agent loop (tool dispatch, permissions, hooks, delegation) from client, model provider, and execution environment, enabling the same runtime to scale locally, remotely, or across Kubernetes clusters. Written in Go and distributed under the Apache-2.0 license, the project was officially open-sourced on September 15, 2026. It explicitly positions itself as a library of modular components rather than a monolithic framework, emphasizing identity, auditability, and avoiding vendor lock-in.
