Promptfoo is an open-source CLI and library tool for testing, evaluating, and red-teaming LLM applications, agents, and RAG systems. It enables declarative YAML configurations, comparisons across 50+ model providers (including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google), and automated vulnerability scanning (prompt injection, jailbreaks, PII leaks). The tool runs locally or self-hosted via CLI/web UI, is CI/CD-friendly, and was acquired by OpenAI in March 2026 while remaining open source under the MIT license. Alongside the free Community edition, there are paid Enterprise and On-Premise offerings with advanced governance features.
