Continue.dev is an Open Source AI programming extension for VS Code and JetBrains IDEs (as well as a CLI tool), licensed under Apache 2.0. Its key differentiator is model flexibility: users can combine any LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, local models via Ollama, and others) for different tasks such as Autocomplete, Chat, Edit, and Agent mode. The core extension is free (Solo plan), while paid Team and Enterprise plans offer additional collaboration and governance features via the "Continue Hub," plus a models add-on for frontier models. The company Continue Dev, Inc. was subsequently acquired by Cursor; according to official documentation and GitHub, a final 2.0.0 release of the VS Code extension, CLI, and JetBrains plug-in was completed.
