RE Engine is Capcom's proprietary game engine, first released in 2017 with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and since then the foundation for over 27 titles such as the Resident Evil remakes, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, and Street Fighter 6. In October 2026, Capcom announced the REX project at the Open Conference RE:2026, which aims to gradually develop the engine into a so-called "AI-generation game engine" where AI systems can read, write, and test code. Initial components of the project, such as RE:Dox (a .NET data processing library) and RE:Log, have already been released as Open Source under the Apache-2.0 license; the engine itself remains proprietary and is neither licensed nor sold externally. A concrete release date for the complete AI version as well as pricing
