Momentum
Jan is an Open Source desktop application by Menlo Research (formerly janhq) that allows Large Language Models to run locally and offline on your own computer. The software supports downloading Open-Weight models (Llama, Gemma, Qwen, GPT-oss and others) in GGUF format from HuggingFace and optionally provides integrations with cloud providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, and Groq. Jan provides a local, OpenAI-compatible API server and supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for agent-based use cases. The project is Open Source under the AGPL-3.0 license and runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
