Codewhale is an Open Source, terminal-native AI Coding Agent that originally launched as "DeepSeek TUI" and was renamed to Codewhale starting with version 0.8.41. Written in Rust, the tool reads and edits code, executes shell commands and tests, and supports both hosted providers (including DeepSeek, Anthropic, OpenAI-compatible routes, Kimi, GLM, OpenRouter, Fireworks) and local models via Ollama, vLLM, and SGLang. It offers snapshot/rollback functionality (/restore), tiered autonomy modes (Plan/Agent/YOLO), MCP and LSP support, and is freely available under the MIT license.
