The Orb is a spherical, stationary biometric hardware device by Tools for Humanity, designed to verify human identity in the age of AI. It scans a person's iris using a multi-channel camera system (wide-angle and telephoto cameras, infrared, 3D time-of-flight, and thermal sensors), processes the images locally via AI-driven neural networks on an NVIDIA Jetson module, and generates a unique, anonymous numeric code (World ID). The device is manufactured by Tools for Humanity (TFH) in Germany, is largely open-sourced, and is deployed via a community-operator model in which users or operators can purchase or rent units.
