Azure OpenAI Service (now part of Microsoft Azure AI Foundry) is a managed cloud service by Microsoft that provides access to OpenAI language models (GPT-5, GPT-4.1, o-series, etc.) via a REST API. Billing is token-based under two main models: Pay-as-you-Go (Standard) and Provisioned Throughput Units (PTUs). The service targets enterprise requirements with built-in data privacy controls, regional data residency, and native integration into the Azure ecosystem (Azure ML, Cognitive Services, Key Vault, etc.). Rate limits and quotas are managed per region, subscription, and model.
