The system combines real-time web search with large language models through a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architecture, delivering synthesized answers with numbered source citations. The core system uses Perplexity's proprietary Sonar models built on Meta Llama; Pro users can additionally switch to models from OpenAI and Anthropic.
