Perplexity AI is an AI-powered answer engine by Perplexity AI, Inc. (founded August 2022, product launched December 2022). The system combines real-time web search with large language models through a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architecture, delivering synthesized answers with numbered source citations. Multiple pricing tiers are available (Free, Pro, Max, Enterprise). The core system uses Perplexity's proprietary Sonar models built on Meta Llama; Pro users can additionally switch to models from OpenAI and Anthropic.
