Mistral Large 4 (internally "ML4", nicknamed "Le Chonk") is Mistral AI's new flagship language model, announced on October 6, 2026 as a public preview. It is a natively multimodal Mixture-of-Experts model with roughly 1 trillion total parameters (1.05T per Mistral's docs) and 49–52 billion active parameters, plus a 1.6-billion-parameter vision encoder. The model was trained entirely in Europe on 3,800 Nvidia Grace Blackwell GPUs and supports over 160 languages; open weights are planned for the end of October 2026, with a final license not yet published at the time of research.
