Ministral is a family of compact, open-weight AI models from Mistral AI designed for edge and on-device use cases. The current generation "Ministral 3" (December 2025) comprises dense models with 3, 8, and 14 billion parameters, each available in Base, Instruct, and Reasoning variants with native image understanding and multilingual capability. The models are released under the Apache 2.0 license and, according to Mistral AI, offer the best cost-to-performance ratio among open models in their size class, supporting context windows of up to 256k tokens. Predecessors were the October 2024 Ministral 3B and 8B models with 128k context.
