IBM Bob is an agentic, AI-powered development tool (AI-first IDE) from IBM that spans the entire software development lifecycle, from planning and coding to testing, deployment, and modernization. The product is built on a VS Code fork, supports multi-model routing (including Anthropic Claude, Mistral, and IBM Granite), and targets enterprise modernization projects (Java, COBOL, RPG, mainframe/IBM i) in particular. It became generally available worldwide in April 2026 after internal testing across more than 80,000 IBM employees, having previously run as "Project Bob" in a preview phase starting November 2025. Licensing uses a consumption-based "Bobcoins" billing model with Pro, Pro Plus, Ultra, and Enterprise tiers.
