Magenta RealTime 2 (MRT2) is an open-weights music generation model from Google's Magenta team (Google DeepMind) that continuously generates 48 kHz stereo audio in real time on Apple Silicon MacBooks. It is controlled via MIDI, text, and audio prompts, and is the first open-weights model enabling continuous real-time music generation with a control latency of approximately 200 ms. The model runs entirely on-device with no cloud dependency and is available in two variants: mrt2_base (2.4B parameters) and mrt2_small (230M parameters). Code and weights are freely available under Apache 2.0 and CC-BY-4.0 licenses.
