Databricks Unity Catalog is the unified governance layer for data and AI assets within the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform. It provides centralized access control, Lineage tracking, Auditing, and Discovery across tables, files, models, dashboards, and functions—organized in a three-level namespace (Catalog.Schema.Object). Since June 2024, an Open Source implementation (Unity Catalog OSS) has been available under Apache 2.0 license, compatible with Delta Lake and Apache Iceberg, among others. Governance features are included in Databricks' Premium and Enterprise tier levels and are not billed separately.
