Mistral Large 4 (ML4, internally "le Chonk") is Mistral AI's largest and most multimodal model to date, announced on October 6, 2026 as a public preview via Mistral Studio and the Mistral API. It uses a granular Mixture-of-Experts architecture with 1.05 trillion total parameters, 52 billion active parameters per token, plus a 1.6-billion-parameter vision encoder for native text-and-image input. Full open weights are planned for release by the end of October 2026, with license terms not yet finalized. Official API list pricing is $1.36 per million input tokens and $4.18 per million output tokens, currently offered at a 50% preview discount.
