CoCounsel Legal is Thomson Reuters' professional generative AI assistant for lawyers and legal departments. The solution combines legal research, document analysis, and document generation in an agentic AI system based on Westlaw and Practical Law content, delivering results with traceable citations. Originally stemming from Casetext technology acquired by Thomson Reuters in 2023, CoCounsel Legal launched in August 2025 as a standalone product with "Deep Research" and was relaunched in August 2026 in an agentic generation based on Anthropic's Claude Agent SDK. The product targets law firms, in-house counsel, and government agencies and is provided via proprietary web application as well as integrations with Microsoft 365.
