Hermes Agent is an open-source, self-improving AI agent by Nous Research, released in February 2026 under the MIT license. It runs as a CLI, native desktop app (macOS, Windows, Linux), or cloud instance, connecting via a central gateway to 20+ messaging platforms such as Telegram, Discord, Slack, and WhatsApp. Its core feature is a persistent memory and skill architecture: the agent autonomously creates and improves "skills" from experience, retains cross-session memory, and supports MCP servers plus any LLM provider (Nous Portal, OpenRouter, OpenAI, etc.). The software itself is free; optional bundled models/tools via the Nous Portal subscription are paid.
