Akamai Workforce Protector (formerly LayerX) is an interaction security platform delivered as a browser extension and desktop agent that secures employee and AI agent interactions with AI tools, SaaS, web, and private applications in real time. It provides shadow AI discovery, data loss prevention, browser extension risk analysis, and secure enterprise browser capabilities without requiring network redesign or browser replacement. Akamai announced its intent to acquire LayerX in May 2026, completed the acquisition in July 2026, and launched the product under its new name in August 2026 as an added security layer to its existing platform securing applications, APIs, and infrastructure.
