Ollama is a local LLM runtime environment that enables users to download, manage, and run Open Source language models (e.g., Llama, Gemma, Qwen, DeepSeek, gpt-oss) on their own hardware. The software offers a command-line interface, a local REST-API, as well as client libraries for Python and JavaScript, and is Open Source under the MIT license. In addition to local operation, Ollama has offered a paid Cloud service with hosted models since 2025/2026. The API is partially compatible with the OpenAI and Anthropic Messages API, which simplifies integrations with existing tools.
