Perplexity is an AI-powered search and research platform (an so-called "Answer Engine") that answers user queries in natural language and provides answers with source citations from real-time web search. The company was founded in San Francisco in August 2022, with the public beta launch of the Answer Engine product occurring in December 2022. In addition to web and app search, Perplexity offers its own Sonar language models, an API, collaborative "Spaces", document creation, and the Comet AI browser. The service is available cross-platform as a web app, mobile app, browser extension, and desktop application.
