Amira is an AI-powered reading instruction platform for K-12 (especially PreK-8), developed by Amira Learning (San Francisco), based on over 20 years of research from Carnegie Mellon University. The system listens to students read aloud, uses speech recognition to detect reading errors, and delivers real-time individualized support, diagnostics (including dyslexia risk screening), and tutoring in English and Spanish. Amira Learning merged with Istation in 2024 and is now part of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH); core products include Amira Tutor, Amira Instruct, and Amira ISIP Assess. The offering targets schools and districts and is distributed through licensing agreements with educational institutions.
